Besselink & Jones - Made in Britain

When it comes to creating fine decorative and bespoke lighting that will stand the test of time, there is no substitute for experience. Besselink & Jones’ strong heritage of traditional British engineering skill is a testimony to this; its workshops have been expertly converting ceramics and an assortment of other pieces into unique lamps for more than fifty years.

Based in Surrey, just outside London, Besselink & Jones’ workshops employ 35 staff including engineers, wood turners, designers, draftsmen and artists whose skill-sets include gilding, wood-turning, metal-plating and cabinetry. They include some of the finest millers, spinners, platers and polishers in the world who are working in London today. Besselink & Jones buys all its materials locally and manufacture its own components as far as possible making it a truly British brand.

Ben Simpson, a Managing Partner of Besselink & Jones, comments:
“A few years ago we came to a crossroads when the lease on our old workshop expired, we had a decision to make as to whether we should invest in British skills or look elsewhere, some even recommended sending our production overseas like so many before us. We spoke to our customers and were pleasantly surprised that British engineering and traditional skills are held in such high regard, especially by our overseas clients. In the end it wasn’t a difficult decision at all.”

With an archive of over 750 lighting designs, Besselink & Jones produces every piece of lighting by hand and standard lights are usually adapted for projects, evolving the collection over the years. Pieces can also be designed and created completely bespoke to suit a client’s specification.

There is no better way for British consumers to reduce the environmental cost of the products they use than by buying products which are sourced and manufactured in Britain. All Besselink & Jones lamps are fitted with low energy bulbs, packaged in recycled packaging and, as they are all made in Surrey, accrue only a few product miles before being bought.

Besselink & Jones’ design ethos incorporates elements of traditional craftsmanship, modern manufacturing and made to last quality which truly make it the best of British design today.
